Frost Smoke Over the Oslofjord

Mist Over Oslofjord

5 January 2024

When cold air runs over warmer water, frost smoke can appear. Even though the water was not warm, at least for us, the difference between the air and water temperatures was big enough for the smoke to appear. On this day it was down to -20°C, and the day after the coldest temperature in Oslo was measured at -31,1°C.

The frost smoke combined with the setting sun gave a magical and surreal look. It was definitely difficult to stay outside for a long time, so I had to take the pictures quickly before my nose and ears froze off.
